Am I Stupid?
I recently received an email from a customer that asked me this very question. Why on earth would I be giving away free jewelry every week? She went on to explain to me that giveaways don’t create sales.
Here is a copy of the email I sent back to her:
I have owned a successful business for over 35 years. I have had more than enough of my share of "things" to keep me comfortable over my life. Sure, the economy of the world has changed the way I spend my money; but it has not changed my heart.
Worrying about your future with focusing on yourself and your own comfort does very little to assure that you will be happy. I am from the old school, where I was raised that it is better to give than receive. So I give of my time, money, love, friendship and yes, even my jewelry. I like seeing other people blessed by what God has provided for me.
Sure I want sales; sure I want people to read my blog; but stressing over this each day is something that I consider a waste of time. I can only hope that if someone reads my blog that when the need jewelry they may thnk about Lady Lynns Boutique.
I may not be able to solve world hunger; but if I can make someone smile today, I consider myself successful. I do not measure success by my possessions. I measure my success in my heart. It truly makes me happy being able to give to others.
So hey, guess what? I am not stupid, I just found a way I can be truly happy each day! I would say that is a pretty smart cookie!

Fabulous Giveaway from a Talented Artist
Nina Robinson
Chula Vista, California
Chula Vista, California
Nina has been painting for seven years without any formal education in the arts. Nine years ago, when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she had to give up a very active lifestyle of hiking, swimming, biking and camping. Nina prayed and asked God to give her a new passion.
She believes that when God closes a door, He opens a window. A friend of Nina's believed she would be good at painting and gave her some canvas and oils and told me to go for it. Nina credits her success to God and calls her painting ability "Nina's Window." Even though she started with oils, Nina loves working with watercolor, pastels, and acrylics.

Praying for Swaziland
Praying for Swaziland
My Pastor has the privilege this week of traveling to a country that is filled with challenges and opportunities. Swaziland is a country near South Africa that has the highest percentage of AIDS victims in the world. Approximately 40% have AIDS and the average life span is approximately 30 years old. Yesterday I was talking with Dave Ohlerking, the founder and President of Children’s Cup, and he shared that among high school boys 67% have AIDS and there are thousands of AIDS orphans that are in need of assistance.

The purpose of this mission trip is to spend time with and train leaders, to experience front lines missions as they feed and care for the children, and to see how God is working in this part of the world. Africa will also play a key role in our vision for Kingdom Builders at C3 Church for 2009. PLEASE pray for our Pastor Matt Fry and his family, as we spend about a week in Africa. Pray for Swaziland, pray for Dave and Jean Ohlerking, pray for Pastor Ben and Susan Rogers, and pray for their safe travel and that the power of God would work in them and through them. http://www.mattfry.com

Friendship
This past year I have learned how important it is to choose your friends wisely. A friend is someone you are there for through thick and thin. A friend is someone you lend a hand to when they are in need or just time to sit and listen. A friend is someone you pour love into and share life together. A friend is someone you pray for.
I found myself is a situation this summer, that was beyond my control. I had a series of health problems and found myself quite alone struggling to make it through each day. The very people that I considered my closest friends, loved and poured into the most were no where to be found even tough they were aware of the situation. A meal, a phone call, a flower from their garden or a simple email would have meant the world to me. Yes, I was hurt by this. But I also learned from this pain.
If you find yourself in a one sided friendship, that is not a true friendship. If the only time you hear from them is when they need something or someone that is not a true friendship.
If they are always to busy with their own life but expect you to make time for them, that is not a true friendship.
There is an “It’s all about Me” attitude in the world today that is very unhealthy! We can not expect our children to not act this way when as adults we are demonstrating this behavior to them.
So think about the people who have been there for you over and over again, pick up the phone and let them know how much you appreciate them! Reach out from your daily routine of rushing around and take 5 minutes the care about someone you consider a friend. Don’t climb up the ladder of success without realizing there was someone who cared enough about you to help you get there. Don’t be a “taker” without willing to be a giver.
It’s not all about you!
Friends are precious, but a true friend is priceless!
