Picture Jasper

Picture Jasper is one of my favorite gemstones because of its unique landscape patterns and wide range of colors.

Picture Jasper is a petrified or silicated mud that dripped into gas pockets of molten lava, becoming super-heated and then solidified forming interesting patterns, bands & colors.

Many of these patterns look like landscapes with mountains, trees and valleys.

Picture Jasper is often called Landscape Jasper or Scenic Jasper. The color comes from Iron Oxides.

Picture Jasper is a chalcedony that is rendered opaque by iron ore. The iron deposits form fascinating patterns of creams, browns and grey/blacks that can look like a tiny picture painted on each stone.

The stone is lovely and I am enraptured by the design in the last picture...it appears to have the effect of a fossil...oh what a glorious way to show His creation!
